What is an intraocular lens?

Intraocular lenses are implanted in almost all cataract surgeries; they replace the focusing power of the lens that is removed. Measurements of each eye are done prior to surgery to determine the correct intraocular lens power. This allows patients to have excellent distance vision with little or no glasses correction. New multifocal intraocular lenses allow distance and near vision without glasses for some patients. Toric intraocular lenses can provide better uncorrected vision than standard lenses for patients with astigmatism. Dr. Selvaraj will discuss the best option for you after performing a detailed examination.

Intraocular Lens Implants (IOLs)

IOLs are put in the eye during almost all cataract surgeries. They are essential to provide high quality vision after the procedure. IOL technology continues to evolve, and today there are many types of lenses to choose from. Cataract patients at West Suburban Eye Center will receive a thorough pre-operative evaluation. This will include a detailed history to determine your visual needs, and precise ocular measurements to calculate the IOL power. Our physicians will use this information and over twenty years of combined surgical experience to recommend the best IOL for your needs.
